“That’s so easy!” Maybe you’ve heard that once or 100 times from a child you love. Maybe you said it that often as a kid – and were in for a shock when you hit college or grad school. We now know that grit and growth mindset – the ability to tackle challenges and face failure in the process of learning is as important to highly capable kids as any other.

Local expert on giftedness and president of Northwest Gifted Child Association, Austina De Bonte, will take a deep dive into this topic at our Fall Gifted Education Seminar. What predicts success? Is intelligence or grit and growth mindset more important? She’ll review the research, discuss the causes of underachievement – and most important – offer ideas on what to do about it.

De Bonte is a consultant at Smart is not Easy, LLC. A dynamic and engaging presenter, Austina speaks regularly at conferences, as well as conducts parent education talks and professional development workshops for educators about the unique social and emotional development of highly capable or gifted children. After her first appearance at the Seabury Gifted Education Seminar two years ago, parents and educators commented that they left inspired and full of new insights. De Bonte combines her experience as a parent and parent coach along with synthesized research, current district practices across Washington state, and cutting-edge neuroscience. De Bonte is a certified SENG Model Parent Group facilitator. She also serves as the president of the Northwest Gifted Child Association, the Washington State support and advocacy nonprofit for families with gifted children.
