Featured Program – Accelerated Weekend
Light Bulb Lab – Innovation & Invention
When: Jan. 25 and 26; 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Where: middle school campus
Who: all second to sixth grade students
Disciplines: Engineering, art, design, humanities
Cost: $100 (both workshops) $60 (single workshop)
Light Bulb Lab features two workshops packed into one weekend, with students divided into two age groups!
Innovation – The art of perseverance:
It's easy to think that anyone who has achieved success came by it easily. But reaching a goal requires loads of persistence and a fair share of failure. In this workshop, participants will explore
people with big ideas who kept at it — including pop culture
phenomenon Lin Manuel Miranda, Super Soaker inventor Lonnie Johnson, and polymath Beatrix Potter.
Through hands-on projects, such as nature illustration and writing and performing their own raps, students will explore pushing through limitations and achieving small successes in pursuit of big goals.
Invention – Turning imagination into reality:
Problems, both big and small, are solved by inventors. Creating energy efficient cars? Getting the last bit of toothpaste out of the tube?
Using the design process as their guide, workshop participants will brainstorm a problem, then design and create an invention to solve that problem. Students will find all the materials they need in Seabury's Design Lab.
