for K-sixth grade*
Week 1: JUNE 26-30
Get dirt under your fingernails. Help us get our native plant garden going for summer. We'll weed our raised boxes and plant flowers and produce. Learn about the powerful magic (okay, science) that happens when tiny critters get together with food scraps to make the best plant food ever. With help from an expert, we'll create a composting system. We'll also learn about the environment and native creatures and birds that we share it with. One summer we saw a pileated woodpecker in the neighborhood! We'll also build bird houses or a garden structure from recycled materials. And just to test if there's any real magic in our magical garden, we'll build some fairy houses, too, and see what happens.
HARRY POTTER: FANTASTIC BEASTS!
Week 2: July 10-July 14
Week 3: July 17-21
Paint like Picasso or Jackson Pollock. Blue period or rose? Splatter and drip action? Design like Da Vinci, with sketches, creations and simple machines. Learn about scale and perspective and make a life-sized Vitruvian man. Build a Brunelleschi dome and design your own amazing machines and buildings with interesting materials. Explore the art and style of these – and more – famous artists, thinkers and innovators. What amazing things will you accomplish this summer?
PERCY'S MYTHOLOGY QUEST!
Week 4: July 24-28
Percy Jackson has designated Seabury School the official Washington State location for Camp Half Blood this summer. We'll get up to speed on Greek Mythology, and also experience myths from many other world cultures. Write and illustrate your own myth. Design a labyrinth. Make wings to fly to the sun. Become the hero of your own story and try out your own god or goddess-like powers in a summer camp for “Olympians” of all ages.
BB-8's GALAXY TOUR!
Week 5: July 31-Aug. 4
Learn about the solar system and beyond – and ponder the idea of life on other planets. Imagine yourself as an astronaut or a space alien. Design and build a spaceship. In groups, create a community that inhabits another planet. Could you modify a planet to become the new "Earth" and create innovations that would allow people to live on it? And what really happened to poor Pluto, anyway? There might be time travel this week, or rocket launching. Oh, and can you say STAR WARS? That will come up, too!
DRAMA QUEENS & KINGS!
Week 6: Aug. 7-11
Sing like a princess, dance like a prince, and create like an Imagineer! Make your own creative magic. Write skits and design costumes and props for an imagination-filled final production. Learn the basic elements of dramatic performance all while exercising your imagination as well as your performing skills. Puppets? Maybe.
