Our philanthropic kids

As part of a study on world religions, the middle school visited Allen A.M.E. Church a week ago and ended up helping with the church's food bank. In the process, the students discovered that the food bank was looking to be far short of the demand for Thanksgiving turkeys. So the students decided, with a little more than a week to go before Thankgiving, they'd rally the greater Seabury community and put on a Turkey Drive. The effort was a resounding success. The students were met with a standing ovation when they delivered 33 turkeys to the food bank on Tuesday.

At the lower school, fourth and fifth graders in the Serpents class have been moved by devastation left in the Philippines by Typhoon Haiyan. They felt a special connection because Jackie Maniulit, fulltime aide in the their classroom, has family in the country, though luckily not in an affected area,

So to help those affected by the typhoon, those students will be taking donations for baked goods and hot cocoa during recess on Dec. 6 after our First Friday all-school gathering. The entire Seabury community is encouraged to contribute baked goods and also to come for gathering and treats. The students also put jars in each classroom to kick off the fundraiser with a coin drive. Coins (and dollar bills) will be collected through Dec. 6.

Thanks again for your support for our students and their desire to serve!
