Gifted ed expert to speak

Participants will be encouraged to focus on the these important questions in order to guide their parenting plan and interactions with their gifted child. Come learn about:· Parenting focused on the goal of raising engaged, resilient kids who face life's ups and downs with resolve and grow into adults with meaningful lives. Come learn about:

  • Parenting focused on the growth mindset (genuine mastery motivation, intellectual fearlessness) versus the static mindset (grades, awards)
  • Parenting focused on nurturing innovative thinking versus perfectionism
  • Parenting focused on modeling healthy life balance versus anxiety habits

Dr. Peters is a licensed psychologist who has devoted his career to the assessment, consultation and treatment of children, adolescents, and families, specializing in gifted and twice-exceptional clients. He is passionate about helping parents and teachers engage children in the classroom, at home, and in life so that they can realize their full potential. Dr. Peters is cofounder and executive director of the Summit Center. He is the author of Make Your Worrier a Warrior: A Guide to Conquering Your Child's Fear and Raising Creative Kids (co-authored with Dr. Susan Daniels. Dr. Peters serves on the California Association for the Gifted (CAG)Advisory Board, the Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG) Editorial Board, the Advisory Board for the 2e Center for Research and Professional Development at Bridges Academy, and as Co-Chair of the Assessments of Giftedness Special Interest Group of the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC).
