Schedule a classroom visit

Once your student’s application is complete, we’ll contact you to schedule the session. Gifted Assessment
In addition to the application, Seabury requires a current cognitive ability evaluation to help us understand each student’s learning profile and ensure a strong fit with our program for gifted and twice-exceptional learners. Families may use a licensed independent psychologist or an approved evaluator (see below). We review the whole profile—not just a single score—including strengths, uneven patterns, and any 2e considerations.
If your child has a recent evaluation, you may submit that report. After you complete the application, upload the report in the portal or have the evaluator send it directly to our Director of Enrollment, David Bergler, at davidb@seabury.org
Application Checklist
- Online Application: Start your application HERE
- Tour: We will schedule a time for you and your child to walk through the school with us, see some classes in action, meet our teachers and staff, and sit down with the Director of Enrollment and Head of School or Assistant Head of School to go over any immediate questions you have.

More Information
Dear prospective families:
Thank you for your interest in Seabury School. We are proud of the quality educational experience Seabury offers our academically advanced students. Seabury offers a child-centered program specifically designed for highly capable learners. Small class sizes allow our teachers to support each child in developing their talents and discovering their passions.
Seabury is one of only three schools in Tacoma accredited by the Northwest Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS), a nonprofit membership association that provides professional development and support services to more than 110 schools in eight Northwest states and British Columbia.
Seabury’s admissions process is designed to focus on the child, not just on the numbers. While cognitive testing is required for admissions, results are looked at in the context of all the information we gather about your child as we get to know each other through the process. Seabury is also one of a handful of schools in the U.S. that will accept the results of either a qualitative or quantitative assessment for admissions. Contact me or check out the testing information for more details.
To learn more about our school, please call our admissions team at 253-252-3542 or email admissions@seabury.org. Also, visit the other sections of this website. In addition to information about our program, you’ll find resources on gifted children.
We recognize the importance of the decision you are making about which school will best meet your child’s educational needs. We are happy to assist you in any way we can in the process.
Seabury offers this list of local psychologists as a starting point for parents needing cognitive testing for their child. These exams are required as part of Seabury’s application process beginning in kindergarten. These psychologists do not work for Seabury but are professionals in the area that we have worked with in the past.

Seabury requires a cognitive assessment as part of the admissions process for students entering grades K-8. Cognitive assessments help our admissions team determine whether Seabury’s program is the best fit for your child. As a child-centered school for highly capable children, Seabury looks at cognitive assessments as one piece of the puzzle, but it is never the only criteria for admission. In addition to the cognitive assessment, we learn about your child’s strengths, challenges, interests, and talents through conversations with your family, your child’s visit to Seabury, information you share on the admissions form, and additional information in school records.
A licensed psychologist of your choice can do the cognitive assessment. However, Seabury offers a list of psychologists who are familiar with our school and have been recommended by previous applicants. Families are advised to make a testing appointment as soon as possible as it often takes time to get on their schedule.
Seabury will accept the results of any individually administered cognitive assessment. The most common assessments are the WPPSI-IV (for younger students) the WISC-V (for older students), and the DAS. Group tests, often given at public schools, such as the CogAT or NNAT, do not provide results that are as accurate or complete, but we will accept them for admission.
Many factors can impact whether an assessment provides an accurate reflection of your child’s ability. Seabury’s admissions team looks carefully at the entire assessment report and views it in the context of what we have learned about your child.
